- DALAMAN MARINA -

Latest news for Dalaman Marina (22.07.2011) - "We finally managed to overcome all obstacles."

Representative from the Special Environmental Protection Agency has told reporters that plans for the new marina in Dalaman has been given the go-ahead and that the area will become one of the most important sea tourism areas of the country.

After many years of negotiations it has been decided that the site for the marina will be classed as a second degree conservation area but will be treated with respect for the continuing habitation of the loggerhead turtles that live and nest there. The president of the hoteliers association Ilhan Acikgoz has spoken openly of his delight at the news and stressed that the marina will be one of the most strategically placed in the country as it is a mere 15 minutes from the International Airport.

We will be waiting patiently for news of when construction is to begin.

"Dalaman is located on the coast in the South west of Turkey, where the mediterranean sea meets the Agean sea. Our county has an International Airport, the Tigem State Farm, an Agricultural Reformatory and a Paper Factory, but all of these businesses, although they do not make profits, are not really benefitting Dalaman. Dalaman has many picturesque bays and 150 km of coastline. All of this is unspoilt and uncommercialised. The main pulse of Dalamans tourism, the new Yacht Marina, was blocked by many excuses and pretexts.

We have no time for excuses anymore! The new Dalaman Yacht Marina will begin this year. It will be huge! It will have capacity for 5 ocean liners and 650 yachts. Only 40 km away, Rhodos has 7 Yacht Marinas. This Yacht Marina will help Dalaman and the Turkish economy very much." Dalaman Mayor said.

BENEFITS OF DALAMAN MARINA

On the stunning coastline of southwest Turkey, the new Dalaman Marina will be located approximately ten miles southwest of the famous ancient port of Göcek. This region of Turkey is popular with visitors from western Europe who flock here during the summer months for the hot sunshine to enjoy the glorious beaches and historic landmarks. Among British visitors, Turkey is one of the top holiday destinations and aside from the superb scenery and cultural heritage, an important reason for Turkey`s popularity is its excellent currency exchange rate for the Euro.

The Dalaman marina will benefit from superb transport links, being directly next to Dalaman International Airport. British Airways have reportedly started a regular service to the airport which will bring more tourists to the area, on top of the large numbers of visitors who reside at the popular Spa Hotel Thermemaris Health & Beauty Resort, located just next to the marina. Before taking off to the beach, which has been awarded the blue flag rating, tourists will be pleased to find that the taxi ride from the airport to the nearest hotels averages at about 10 minutes of journey time. Most of the hotels nearby are luxury standard, with large, inviting swimming pools and elegantly furnished rooms. Many of the rooms also enjoy excellent views of the mountains and the coastline as well.

The economy of southern Turkey is dependent on the sailing industry, with towns such as Dalaman, Antalya, Bodrum and Marmaris benefiting from the high level of trade brought in from local yacht owners and companies operating ship cruises in the region. However, competition from other countries has meant the government has had to find new strategies to maintain a strong local economy.
